CDC PRC Program's tested interventions.

DHPE is working with the PRC program at CDC to help bring prevention research into practice. An exploratory meeting convened at CDC in summer 2006 to identify approaches to effective dissemination of adoptable interventions. Five key recommendations included:

  • Assign the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) the lead in developing and supporting the systems and mechanisms needed for wide scale dissemination of effective interventions.
  • Involve all public health partners in dissemination and ensure that each one’s role is clear.
Define the vocabulary of dissemination and adoption of interventions so that partners can effectively communicate with each other.
  • Develop a long-term vision for the adoption of proven interventions that includes support for dissemination research.
  • Create a single portal to information that gives practical steps for adopting interventions that can be accessed by researchers and practitioners.

Follow-up activities to this meeting have identified the need to take stock of existing dissemination mechanisms and develop a conceptual framework for dissemination. DHPE is also seeking avenues for further discussion and promotion of research to practice dissemination concepts.
