DHPE Associate Membership

Register for DHPE Associate Membership

DHPE welcomes associate members. Associate membership is open to public health educators in state and local health department, and community-based organizations; Indian Health Service staff; administrators and faculty of schools of public health; and health educators in other organizations.

Associate membership in DHPE provides you with:

Continuing Education Opportunities

  • DHPE, with CDC, sponsors the annual National Conference on Health Education and Health Promotion.
  • DHPE offers continuing education contact hours at the annual conference for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES).
  • DHPE provides notice of local, state and regional health promotion and health education meetings nationwide.

Advocacy

  • DHPE influences health policy through resolutions, action alerts and other advocacy efforts.
  • DHPE works with advisory boards, coalitions and special interest groups at the national, state and local levels to influence and promote community-based prevention, health education and health promotion practice and policy.

Networking

  • DHPE publishes a newsletter that highlights timely developments, new programs and member achievements.
  • DHPE stimulates peer exchange through its annual membership directory.
  • DHPE provides regular updates on federal, state and local public health, health education and health promotion issues, programs and activities.

Professional Practice Standards

  • DHPE promotes professional exchange through its liaison relationships with national organizations and schools of public health.
  • DHPE strengthens state and local disease prevention, health education, and health promotion practice through standardization of the roles and functions of practitioners, and by supporting the establishment of standards of ethics for the field.

Active Involvement

  • DHPE encourages associate members to serve on standing committees (Legislative/Advocacy, Awards, Nominations, By-Laws, Communication, National Conference Planning, Resource Development, Training and Continuing Education) and workgroups; to participate in reviewing abstracts submitted for presentation at the annual national conference; and, to moderate workshops and other presentations at the annual conference.
