DHPE partnered with the
Community Health and Program Services, Division
of Adult and Community Health, NCCDPHP at CDC
to provide information to employers and health
agencies about the sources and effects of job
stress on female blue collar workers and to
offer recommendations for future occupational
and health promotion efforts. This proposed
activity would uncover a greater understanding
of the sources of job stress such as the contributing
and enabling factors of job stress, the impact
on the quality of life and ways to cope with
job stress of blue collar workers.
DHPE in the fall of 2005 formed a work group
of voting and associate members to assist with
this project. Briefly, the project plan consisted
of conducting ten focus groups, two in each
of five selected geographical areas –
Wisconsin, California, Georgia, Mississippi,
and Connecticut. DHPE worked closely with five
community-based organizations (CBOs) in these
five states to conduct the focus groups. The
CBOs were responsible for recruiting, screening,
selecting and confirming the participants of
the focus groups, conducting the focus group
sessions, and providing DHPE with the focus
group transcripts and written questionnaires.
Analysis of the data was completed during the
summer of 2006 and you may download
the full report by clicking here.
We are beginning phase II of the project which
consists of conducting six focus groups in three
geographical areas – Nebraska, California
and South Carolina with Latino/Hispanic female
blue-collar workers. Focus groups will be conducted
February-April of 2007.
